Masters Research:

Shark Girl: Teaching Contemporary Visual Culture Through Public Art

My Master's thesis involved the conduction of an ethnographic, arts-based research study of Shark Girl, a public art icon in Buffalo, NY, in a search to uncover how public art shapes, and is shaped by, visual culture.  I applied my findings to my own pedagogy by using my data to inform the beginnings of several unit plans in which public art is a tool to unlocking visual culture as content in art curriculum.  I presented my findings at the Nazareth College CARS exhibition.
